Thanks for this reminder to get a kettlebell. Especially after watching the video about using the hips more than knees. I'd be scared to do this if it was deep knee movement because mine aren't great.
I actually started this yesterday and man, am I feeling it today! I didn't purchase the kettlebell yet, I used my two 5 lb dumbells. I want to start small and not overdo it.
Who doesn’t love carrying so many groceries that you can’t get out your keys to open the door without leaning up against the wall and doing the “don’t drop it!” Dance? I always seem to put the keys in the wrong pocket to make it more exciting.
This is exactly what I needed to read today! I’ve got a set collecting dust in my basement and I really want to start using them.
Is it normal to fear that you’re gonna take out your tv or another human with these swings? Because in midlife I’m especially klutzy and forgetful. Will I get in my thoughts and fling it across the room? 😂
You’ll be the first to know when I get the answer.
This is a great synopsis for kettlebell workouts, thanks Tim.
As a chiropractor I want to emphasize the point you made about not rounding the low back at the start of the movement, it must be a hip hinge with, as you said, the power coming through the lower kinetic chain. We should keep in mind that we also need to hip hinge when we pick up and set the KB down. Many folks use great form during the lift and then sloppily round their spine to set the weight down and get injured.
Thank you for pointing that out, Donna. It's important to use good form for all parts of the workout.
A long time ago, I pulled a muscle by bending down to the side to pick up a coffee cup and then twisting to the front. It was quite painful ad sure didn't help my life quality any. So if a coffee cup was enough weight to pull something, moving a kettlebell is even more critical.
Always pick up any weight with your body totally aligned with the weight in front, legs firmly planted, hip hinge down, back not rounded, moving with intention.
Grips and hips! I love kettlebell swings!
Erik, you seem like the kind of person that would be all over these!
Now I know why kettlebells. #3 and #6 posterior muscle strength and power - that’s what I need.
There are so many reports that kettlebell swings and get-ups will make you a better runner and all-around athlete for that reason.
I know that my lower back used to hurt when running, and since using these workouts, it doesn't anymore.
Makes sense more strength in form and posture. I just finished about 30.

I’m super excited to hear that you gave it a try!
Starting small and giving yourself a day or so off to recover is the right approach. Let your body adjust.
Lol before I even read the post I have to pay homage to the title 🤣 That took me out lol!
Haha! I was sort of afraid to use it.
Never be afraid of risky headlines 😁
First off: You had me at the title! 😂
I have been neglecting my kettle bells and this is just what I need to get back into it.
Haha I am also team one trip after Costco, and I swear I only train hard to I can carry more groceries!

😂😂💯
I am so in the same boat!
Kettles are the best.
I agree! Thanks for reading and commenting.

This is a normal fear. Probably, totally unfounded...
That's why this is a good way to build that mental muscle, too. Get a grip on your attention span AND the kettlebell handle.
That’s asking a lot somedays. I’m gonna try it though. Stay tuned.
I'll be expecting an update on the state of your walls, the human death toll, and such.
You’re the first one who I’m sending the newspaper clipping too! Yeah, we’re going old school.

Yes, as Pavel Tsatsouline says, treat the kettlebell with respect.
He also said, “Don’t let me catch you wearing those sissy workout gloves.”
Can’t wait to read it, the title is a bomb😃
I had fun with it! Considered all kinds of boring titles first and decided on something outside the box
I was driving my car while it popped up on my phone.
When I saw it was from you, I thought: “Yep, Tim has a fantastic humor, this makes sense.”😄
