We are definitely going against the grain on the new narrative- don’t fear the fat!!! When I started my research on fat and cholesterol, I started connecting the dots that all the things we are now being medicated for can simply be reversed by eating more fat. Vitamin D, our hormones, brain health.
It seems like US is a country where money dictates guidelines the most.
They are useful but have to be taken with a grain of salt (or added sugar in their case).
I agree it must come from bottom, otherwise things will always stay the same.
However I'm afraid people will misunderstand the messages and start eating a ton of bad quality animal fat, which is a terrible choice as it gathers all toxins from food chain.
That's why in general I think it's better to buy leaner meat if you want to be cheap about it and add olive oil or good butter. That will probably be cheaper than just good quality meat.
The chemical shit storm needs to be avoided at all cost.
What drives me crazy is how much many products in the supermarket still hold the hold claim of “low fat” (at least here in Germany), making people believe they buy the right thing.
Low sugar-you don’t find that.
Years ago I told my ex that fat won’t make you fat. I’m not sure if it was the break up or something else, but later she said: I searched around a bit on the internet and you’re right.
The ingredients lists for food products are so misleading and it’s a huge challenge for consumers.
We have a lot of low-calorie and low-fat products around Canada. And we have a lot of things labeled “Skinny Girl” or some such that you know are low-calorie without saying it.
I'd say that there are no nutrients we should ever be scared of, because if your relationship with food is marked with fear you won't make good decisions.
Understanding is the way to do good decisions, but simplest approach you can do without learning a lot is to have diverse diet and listen to your body.
If you feel you want to eat only cheese pizza you shouldn't as it's not diverse. But if you do it sometimes it won't be horrible for your health either.
Thanks for your comment, Jacek I’d agree that fear of any food is not the best. And you’re right, a diverse diet can really help most people.
I think if we eat healthy 80% of the time, our bodies can manage pretty well. No one is going to be able to stick to a super restrictive plan that calls for 100% compliance anyway. So if we have that cheese pizza, then good! Enjoy it.
Excellent post, Tim! I appreciate your directness and not sugar-coating the issue. Think of all of the harm done by people taking statins. My mom took them and said they cause muscle weakness in her legs, so she stopped. We need more people to get the word out about this because we actually need cholesterol to stay healthy.
People need to stop fearing fats and carbs and educate themselves on the benefits of healthy fats like omega 3 and healthy carbs like complex carbs. And you know what even if you eat sugar and unhealthy fats occasionally and in moderation there is nothing to fear. I’ve lost not far off from 70 pounds now and I’ve enjoyed burgers, pizza, ice cream, cookies, chocolate and so on in moderation during this. Oh yeah and I’ve managed to keep my A1C in the low 5’s as well even with the occasional junk eating.
Thank you, and I agree. You have to develop a healthy relationship with food to get there and it was not easy for me, but Ozempic has been a good tool to help me do that.

It’s funny. A couple people I know that said they would never take statins, just buckle and take them when their doctor says they have to or else.
