I was always suspicious “intuitive” eating for exactly the reasons you mention.

My intuition is telling me I would thoroughly enjoy a huge piece of cake.

My intuition loves chips, burgers, chocolate, fries, mashed potatoes with gravy, and pizza. It’s not much of a fan of anything else lol

Tim, I’m able to eat intuitively. I listen or my body tells me: protein! Fruit. A cookie please. Not hungry! Coffee. Tea 🍵…. Etc. As an ex bulimic of far too many years, I realize how lucky I am. That ‘thing’ has vanished. It’s now been over 33 years of freedom & trusting myself.

I have nothing against intuitive eating and if it works for you that's awesome, but it doesn't click with me... intuitively I want to a bag of chocolate almonds every night.

I love this idea of intentional eating. And you're so right that a diet isn't just about weight loss, but about bolstering strong mental, spiritual, and physical health. In general, I really appreciate your approach Tim. Offering ideas and guidance but not forcing any one idea or style. The health space needs more people like you. Thanks for writing.

As you said if intuitive eating works legitimately then fantastic but you hear those in the Fat Acceptance Movement tell you to do this because “diet culture is toxic” and “there is health at every size”.

Yeah. And diet culture really can be toxic. But eating unrestricted amounts of processed food backfires for most of us

On a serious note it is true that diet culture can be toxic but I am at a point where I just laugh at what these HAES activists say.

Until you told me about them I had no idea what was going on and now I’m shocked

Yeah it’s surreal but sadly a reality. Go on YouTube and check out Cynical Dude or Michelle McDaniel as they reveal the reality of this toxic and dangerous movement

Thank you for your comment. It’s great to hear from someone who can use intuitive eating, and it gives me hope. So one of the things that I’m thinking is that if I intentionally eat long enough, eventually, I will be able to listen to my body and do a better job of managing things like processed food.

I know, right? My intuition is geared to keeping me alive during a famine and storing fat for the future. The number of famines so far in my life has been relatively low, so the fat-prepping isn't useful.
