Choosing what is best for you means educating yourself on the food you eat. Something that many are not willing to do and rely on what they are being told. Where did the critical thinking go? When did we all rely on what Big Food companies market to us? Where does the food come from, read labels, know what to avoid and know what to add. When we have more information, then we can make a more educated choice and what is best for you!
Eating healthy does require being curious and learning new things. I find it crazy that people assume these big companies would do what’s right from the goodness of their hearts. Corporations are heartless.
Label reading is a skill. I think we should start running courses for it in school or something.
I’m on the FODmap diet and had to prepare my own food to bring to my son’s birthday dinner tonight because I can’t eat what everyone else is eating. It’s extra work but totally worth it to keep myself healthy.
It’s temporary while I learn which foods work for my body and which foods don’t. I’m learning a lot and enjoying discovering new ways of eating. Who knew that papaya juice is a superfood for the gut or that it has lots of potassium!
I do that sometimes too, get in a small meal before I go out the door and then I can fend off temptation. Especially helpful for me to avoid the wheat.
Ads are creeping back into our lives on all the streaming services. I’m sure we will be seeing plenty of persuasion to buy their products there as well as every time we leave the house.
Hi Tim! I enjoyed today's post, including 'Frankenfood,' and the rebel bird sign! Keep the reminders coming - fresh is best! Being a rebel sounds like a healthy idea! Happy New Year!
My new rebel is making my own tortilla chips to reduce corn/veggie/crap oils-I make them with avocado oil or olive oil-and they are more delicious anyway!! We think tortilla chips (because they are made from corn, gluten-free whatever) are healthier but taking time to read labels is important! We've eliminated chips for the same reason, but we like the brand Food That Tastes Good for healthy chips and you really have to search for things not made with corn/safflower/crap oils!
Lots of recipes if you search ‘homemade tortilla chips’. I bake mine (not fry), use corn tortillas, avocado oil and sea salt. Bake 275F for about 8-10 mins. They are delicious!
Actually... the market responds to human consumption... if people buy and eat it, they make more. Look at the shift in food sellection after lots of people changed to gluten free. Your dollar speaks loudly. What we see on the shelves is human approved. Shelves get emptied and they make more.
Thanks for your comment! That’s true to a degree, and it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t use intention around food. Just because unsuspecting people vote with their dollars, doesn’t mean it’s all fair, equal and above board.
I’ve been successful with not omitting any foods at all. And I find over time that I rarely want the crap though I will plan out the occasional indulgence that may include cookies, cakes, etc.
I still feel that the only way for most people is to make intentional choices. I think we tend to be too hard on ourselves when we start out and then we swing back into a binge because we deprived ourselves. Our subconscious mind interprets self-denial of treats as “I’m starving! I have to have it!”
Yup I can understand that which is why I struggled with yo-yo dieting for years because I did that too. But Ozempic has changed so much for me in a good way. My goal is to hit my goal this year
A factory nipple. 🤣🤣 It's a good day when the first thing you read contains that phrase.
In defense of "Ordering food that gets delivered to our door," there are decent options for this. I often order a weeks worth of hearty salads with delicious and healthy fixins' from InspiredGo. They deliver to my door.
Gotta get these people off of that factory nipple so they can grow up to rebel, lol! That delivery of salads sounds pretty good. Most people are ordering Boston Pizza, McDonald’s, and even 7-11 food with DoorDash and whatnot.
Yes, to that! I also shop at the farmers’ market or directly with farmers I know, choose organic, and eat plenty of raw veggies, eat a ketogenic diet, avoid eating three hours before bedtime, and fast about 14 hours. Works for me!

Hmm. Now that’s an idea 🤔

So your diet is a curse and a blessing then. Sometimes too much freedom backfires on us, but I know it’s easy to feel like you’re missing out.
It’s temporary while I learn which foods work for my body and which foods don’t. I’m learning a lot and enjoying discovering new ways of eating. Who knew that papaya juice is a superfood for the gut or that it has lots of potassium!
I hear you. I’ve eaten meals before going to a dinner event.
I do that sometimes too, get in a small meal before I go out the door and then I can fend off temptation. Especially helpful for me to avoid the wheat.
The more unhealthy a food is, the more intense it gets promoted.
The big food companies go out of their way to try and sell Frankenfood.
Intentional (sometimes also intuitive) eating is a great way to turn a mindless diet around and make a huge impact on your personal health.

I’m pretty sure about that too

Happy rebellious new year to you as well! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks Tim!

Those sound great. Have you shared the recipe? I’d like to give it a try

Sounds good- my wife found a recipe and she’s going to try it this weekend
oh shoot @Tim--it's bake at 375F!

I AM asking g people to vote differently.
I am a big label reader, cook food myself (no microwave), cook from stratch, etc.. and i work at a grocery store! Your article is excellent!

I bet you’ll make it!
thank you, and I know I will
Yes! I am sure that Monsanto has a few politicians on their payroll.
There is no doubt in my mind that the politicians work for business, and business is all about money and makes us into cash co s.
I strictly adhere to the conformist diet and I’m trying to figure out how to flag this post as hate speech…
Perfect! Rebels love being flagged!

Excellent article. Couldn't agree more on all your arguments.
The smarter your food choices the better the chances of having a long and healthy life.
And yes, you can grow and raise your own food. 🏡
Do it in small steps. And become ungovernable, one veggie and rabbit at the time.
