Vegetable Oil Was Designed by Doctor Evil
This villain is stealing your mojo and taking away your last 20 birthdays.
Consider, now, a most insidious plot.
DR. Evil: “Mini Me, Number Two, Frau Farbissina. Here is my evil plan that will ruin everything for everyone, and make us ONE MILLION DOLLARS!”
Number Two: “That’s not much money anymore, sir. I suggest going for billions instead.”
Dr.Evil: “Fine. Billions then. This is the Frankenfood Plan. We will make people think THIS is a vegetable!” (He holds up a jug of cooking oil.)
Number Two: “I don’t get it, sir.”
Dr. Evil: “Of course not! That’s why I’m the evil genius, and you’re just my Number 2! Mini Me, kick him in the shin!” (Mini Me kicks him)
Number Two: “Oof! But sir—”
Dr. Evil: “I have a whole bag of Shh here. Don’t make me open it!
“We all know that broccoli, carrots, KALE, rutabagas, and kumquats are good for us, right? Vegetables are good! The word gives everyone warm, fuzzy feelings like they are good little people if they eat them. So what we’ll do is name this VEGETABLE OIL! It will be squeezed out of millions of plant seeds, so it’s not even a lie.”
Number Two: “Sir, kumquats aren’t a vegetable, and— OOF!” (Gets punched below the belt by Mini Me)
Dr. Evil: “Next, we create a propaganda campaign so huge that even the Russians will be jealous! We’ll get the public to turn against the old, healthy, traditional way of eating. Instead of growing or preparing their own food, they will have to buy it from us! We’ll start slow, by getting them hooked on this!” (holds up a bag of white powder.)
Frau Farbissina: “Cocaine?”
Dr. Evil: “No, white sugar! Next, we’ll turn them against animal products because it makes us less money. Flour, cookies, potato chips, margarine, and cereal are easy and cheap to mass produce. So, we’ll demonize saturated fat with our Dietary Guidelines for Americans. By the time we’re done, everyone will be going PLANT BASED! But they won’t eat plants.”
Number Two: “Plant based people won’t eat plants?”
Dr. Evil: “Of course not. What would be the point? We can’t manufacture plants! But we can manufacture food-like substances, and label them PLANT BASED. We’ll use sugar, flour, vegetable oil, and chemicals to concoct beige slop in giant vats. The factories will squeeze it out like Frosty the Snowman making snow cones. Power bars, salad dressing, baby formula, canned soup, you name it. We’ll put this ultra-processed “vegetable” oil in everything. My evil genius food engineers will create perfect, irresistible snacks. The losers won’t be able to say no, and the whole world will get hooked on our Frankenfood. Frau Farbissina, turn on the giant screen.”
Frau Farbissina: (shouts) “TURN ON THE GIANT SCREEN!” ( A big graph titled Frankenfood appears on the screen.)
Dr. Evil: “As you can see, a steady diet of vegetable oil will suck the MOJO right out of men, leaving them impotent. It will give the women reproductive issues like PCOS. It’ll give everyone diabetes, macular degeneration, and high blood pressure. They’ll go to their doctor. The doctor thinks that drugs will cure them. We make the drugs. We sell statins, blood pressure medication, and Viagra to everyone! It’s the old one-two punch. Make them sick and sell the snake oil cure.”
Number Two: “But if you cure them, they’ll still be happy and live normal lives.”
Dr. Evil: “Cure them? Other than Viagra, these drugs don’t work, moron. They just mask the symptoms! Frankenfood, vegetable oil, and medications will shorten the losers’ lifespans by 10 to 20 years, or at least suck the fun out of it. I will steal everyone’s last twenty birthdays because they will die young or wish they had! And I will make ONE MILLION DOLLARS.” (He laughs evilly, and his henchpeople join in.)
“Doctor Evil! I Didn’t Spend Six Years In Evil Medical School To Be Called ‘Mister,’ Thank You Very Much.” ― Dr. Evil
Smoking or Vegetable Oil
If you had to choose, which one do you think is worse?
Many health professionals think those unstable free-radical-producing seed oils that are 20% or more of a daily American diet are as dangerous as cigarettes. Like this expert, Dr. Cate Shanahan.
From her website:
“Dr. Cate Shanahan is the leading authority on nutrition and human metabolism. A board-certified Family Physician with over 20 years of clinical experience, and NY Times bestselling author of The FatBurn Fix, Deep Nutrition and Food Rules, her expertise is fixing the underlying problems that cause metabolic damage and inflammation, leading to autoimmunity, weight gain, diabetes, cancer and accelerated aging processes.”
In one interview, Dr. Cate Shanahan claimed that vegetable oil was as dangerous as a tobacco habit.
“So canola oil, just like soy and corn, promotes inflammation because it’s unstable. And the amount that we consume these seed oils these days is the problem. If we could dial back our consumption of omega-three and omega-six and ensure that it only comes from food, whole food, not factory-processed oils, We’d be fine. We’d be back where we were a hundred years ago when our consumption was about a 10th or 20th, or 30th, depending on who you are or what it’s now. But we have 10, 20, 30 times more than our bodies can handle. And it builds up in our body fat, acts like a toxin, and makes it so that our body fat is inflammatory. And it has huge implications for every aspect of ours.” — Dr. Cate Shanahan
If you have an overabundance of the wrong fats, it’s in every cell of your body. Cell walls are made from 80% cholesterol, and 20% of your brain is cholesterol too. So, ensuring we provide our bodies with the right building blocks is super important.
We need some of each type of fatty acid. The problem is when there is too much Omega 6 compared to other fats. If you eat vegetable oil every day, then every cell inside you will have too much. This causes chronic inflammation.
But what makes vegetable oil, specifically Omega 6 PUFAs (polyunsaturated fatty acid, a fatty acid containing two or more double bonds between carbon atoms) so dangerous?
It’s because they are oxidants. PUFAs cause internal degradation. We all know we should eat anti-oxidants, but vegetable oil is the opposite of what we want.
Vegetable Oil is a Fragile Oxidant! It Breaks Down and Makes Free Radicals
Do you love antioxidants like blueberries? We all do. That’s why it makes no sense to eat oxidants!
Of the various fats available, heat or chemical-extracted vegetable oil high in Omega 6 is the worst, most oxidizing choice. Here’s why.
Saturated fats: no double bonds, stable. Examples: Animal products (50%), coconut oil (86%)
Monounsaturated fats: one double bond, fairly stable. Examples: Olive oil (71%), Avocado oil (70%), animal products (50%)
Polyunsaturated fats with Omega 3 and Omega 6: two or more double bonds, unstable. Examples: Safflower oil (74.6%), Grapeseed oil (69.9%), Flaxseed oil (67.9%), Sunflower oil (65.7%), Poppyseed oil (62.4%), Soybean oil (58.9%), Canola Oil (32%)
The problem with polyunsaturated fats is that they have pesky double bonds that react with oxygen or heat and deteriorate. They also shoot out free electrons when your body breaks them down. Those loose electrons run into important things we want to keep healthy, like our DNA, and damage them. That’s what’s called free radical damage.
If you have a lot of polyunsaturated fatty acids to work with and not much else, all of your cell membranes are made out of that garbage. So you are oxidizing inside, just rusting away.
Fragile fatty acids like vegetable oil are risky. If you only eat a small amount, your body can deal with it. But if you eat SAD (Standard American Diet) you are getting a lot of PUFAs.
An interesting thing to note is that stable fats like animal or coconut are the ones they keep telling you not to eat. What’s their agenda? That is a story for another day.
Vegetable Oil Might Cause Macular Degeneration
Maybe you’ve heard of Macular degeneration. It causes blurred or reduced central vision and is the leading cause of loss of sight in people over fifty. In 2019, almost twenty million Americans had it.
What if this is a disease we modern folk invented in the last hundred years by eating factory garbage food? More than one researcher has discovered that, like diabetes, losing your eyesight to macular degeneration is relatively new.
Dr. Chris Knobbe, is the author of The Ancestral Diet Revolution: How Vegetable Oils and Processed Foods Destroy Our Health – and How to Recover!” (2023.) He also wrote “Ancestral Dietary Strategy to Prevent and Treat Macular Degeneration” (2016.)
In this video, he explains that his research shows that macular degeneration was rare until we started eating so much processed food, particularly vegetable oil. His data is convincing.
What Has Vegetable Oil In It?
I bet you think mayonnaise is made from eggs.
Wrong!
One popular brand, Hellman’s, contains up to 78% vegetable oil and only 10% egg products.
Yup, mayonnaise is made from solidified vegetable oil.
What else contains free-radical-creating vegetable oil?
Margarine — has up to 80% vegetable oil — just like mayonnaise
Some plant-based “meat” has vegetable oil as a main ingredient. You know this if you’ve cooked a burger from beyond and a bunch of oil came out.
Bread, buns, biscuits, cookies, candy, and sweets.
Artificial coffee creamer — a good source of hydrogenated oil — yum!
Oat milk — most of it includes canola oil (aka rapeseed oil)
Potato chips, fries, and corn chips — deep fried in canola or other oils
Fast Food, especially fried chicken
Crackers and snack foods — loaded with unhealthy oils
Salad Dressing — the first ingredient is vegetable oil
Microwave Popcorn
Nuts and Seeds — usually roasted in death oil
Baby Formula — according to the Weston A Price Foundation, “Infant formula is primarily composed of sugar or lactose, dried skim milk, and refined vegetable oil, which can include genetically modified components.” It sounds like Big Food is starting ’em out young.
Huh. So What Doesn’t Have Vegetable Oil In It?
I’m glad you asked.
Real food. Food that hasn’t been chewed up and spit out as a paste from some nameless factory that adds forty chemicals and seed oils.
Food that doesn’t come out of a box or a deep fryer. Food that has three ingredients or less.
Meat, vegetables, and fruit.
Foods prepared with olive oil, avocado oil, or animal fats.
Mayonnaise made with avocado oil.
Hey, I’m not telling you what to do. Go ahead and live your life. But think about what you put in your body on a daily basis. Can you trust big business to put your health first? No. They put the bottom line first. They are here to make money.
Corn oil, canola oil, sunflower oil, and all the other seed oils are dirt cheap. They cost pennies a liter. Other ingredients, like high-quality olive oil, cost a lot more. So, by engineering their snacks and man-made foods in a lab, they can use these low-cost seed oils to make “food.”
Eating less manufactured food and more natural food is in your best interest. Back away slowly from the vegetable oil.
That stuff is like eating nuclear radiation.
Whole foods is best, or as you call it REAL food. Right? We try, hard, but in Canada in January, February, it's difficult not to mention expensive. Still, knowledge is power. There's usually a way.
Good job getting the message out Tim. :)
Boom! In the early 1900's Procter and Gamble were trying to profit from waste engine lubricant. They used it to make Crisco (crystalized cottonseed oil). Then they donated a ton of money to create the American Heart Association, which subsequently promoted it as 'heart healthy.' And here we are today. This is criminal.
