Than you for sharing your vulnerabilities with us, Tim.
It reminds me of my dad`s story: Violence, the a lack of love and affection, a mother claiming she had done everything right, when in her mind, maybe she has. So my dad was often not present for his own family while trying to earn the love of his mother as an adult.
It showed me that no matter how bad the past was, he couldn`t give up on his mother and that came at a cost: him being choleric often but not violent and my mother seeing their marriage go down.
You and your wife have set an example of what childhood can be on the other hand: parents who care and go out of their way to make their kids feel loved and respected.
Taking this big scary subject, giving it some objective actions/reframes and moving onward. Thanks for sharing.
As I’ve started reminding myself “no one gets out of childhood unscathed”. It’s just part of the deal. Even someone who grew up with super parents may be traumatized that they had it so good. We focus on the negative and create wild narratives.
That’s rough about your sister. I have a brother that has been out of our lives for about the same amount of time. Family is the hardest challenge most of us run into.
Thanks for sharing an important message. The human resilience is amazing.
It really is amazing. We can recover from unwelcome experiences and learn so much from them.

Thanks for your support on this one. We have a chance to grow as people by sharing our stories and thinking them through.
Beautifully and simply written! Bravo, Tim.

The default is to focus on the negatives, you’re right. It takes intention to change that.
Man, if I gave you my sister's number would you anonymously text this to her? She's been estranged for almost 10 years and really needs to read this.
I'm sorry you went through all this, Tim...but so glad you wrote about it. Thanks for sharing.

Indeed 😕
Thanks, I'm hoping it will help someone else free up their demons too
