First of all: "I can look dumb no matter what Iβm doing, so I donβt let it stop me." << I feel so seen.
I admit, I don't own a backpack and if I'm going to start with this, I'd like one that expands to winter coat size because....winter.
I'm headed out of town this weekend but I'm for sure shopping for a backpack when I get back next week. I've been threatening to ruck since the last time you wrote about it.
Yay Tim I love this. I ruck with my dogs on their work every morning. Did it for a year with bricks in a rucksack (pro tip - gaffer tape the bricks they don't rip the bag). Like you I passed on goruck and got myself a small army pack its black and looks normal and a proper non brand ruck weight off amazon. Whole thing was like 100 quid. Will share this article in a future round up as I love rucking and feel everyone should do it as its so simple and beneficial.
Thanks, John! The gaffer tape is a good idea for rough edges. At one point I cut my own steep plate and had to duct tape foam onto the corners to keep it from ripping through the pack.
50lbs of sand is $5! Can buy sand bags to old that sand for equally cheap and then put into any bag/carrying configuration you already have. Good stuff brother
Great point, forgot to mention sand! Iβve made myself some sand bags, they work good too. The plates carry nice and tight though, and donβt take up as much room.
I know what you mean about expensive!! I have looked around my house for a usable backpack, and need to find one. All we have here are cartoon character backpacks, and a couple of old LL Bean ones, that wouldn't support heavy stuff. I do have some weight plates hanging around. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thereβs one in North Calgary by the airport, and one in Edmonton.
I canβt even imagine how little I would get done in life. If I had to stop every time. I thought it looked dumb lol
You could always stop by Uncle Wienerβs and pick up a cheap one!
Was Uncle Weiner in Calgary?? π I would go just for the photo op!

I agree, everyone needs to hear about rucking.
I wanted to do this over the summer and didn't. I try again in November. I think it would help me be a stronger hiker.
It helps a lot with hiking endurance, Iβve found. Toughens up the legs a ton if you ruck any hills!
